Are You Full?

In 2008, Sony pictures released a movie entitled, Vantage Point. It immediately grabbed my attention because of the creative way in which the plot unfolded. An American president was assassinated while making a speech in Spain. What made it interesting is the story was told and retold from several different vantage points, through the eyes of various characters. I love it when writers and directors find innovative ways to tell stories through film. Similarly, I found myself doing the same thing while reading about one of Jesus’ many miracles. (more…)

Don’t Look Back!

Don’t Look Back!

Most of us know the story of how God powerfully delivered the Israelites from their Egyptian oppressors.  With the Egyptians hot on their heals, He miraculously brought them through the Red Sea.  He then took them by the hand on the way to a beautiful place he had meticulously prepared for them.  However, in order to get to that beautiful Promised Land, they had to first go through the wilderness.  As they traveled through that dry, hot, miserable place they began thinking about Egypt.  They thought about the shelter they had, the meat they ate and all the “comforts” they enjoyed back in Egypt, which they lacked in the wilderness.  As a result, they did the unthinkable.  They cried out and voiced their desire to go back!

On the way to fulfill what he thought was his God-given purpose (destroying these Christians), Jesus appeared to Saul in a bright light that struck him to the ground, leaving him in a state mirroring his spiritual condition – blind.  The Bible says that for three days he could not see and ate nothing.  As I read his story, I couldn’t help but wonder, “What was he doing for those three days?” It wasn’t long before I discovered the profound answer, which shook me to my core! Walking on Water

There’s a story in the Bible found in Luke 24:36-50, where Jesus performed the most amazing miracle.  His disciples were caught off-guard in a terrible storm at sea and He showed up to the rescue them literally walking on the water!  If that wasn’t incredible enough, during the rescue, one of His disciples did the most crazy thing!  He asked Jesus for permission to duplicate His astonishing feat – come to Him walking on the water!  Like, who does that?!  (more…)
